6 Who Speak Modern Assyrian Language? Modern ASSYRIAN today is spoken by almost three million people all over the world. The region that this language is widely spoken in is the North of Iraq (Kurdistan Regional Government and Nineveh district), South of Turkey, and Syria. Assyrians in Iran (Chaldo-Soroyo_ Assyrian) especially in Uremia speak this language, and they have a great literature written in this language. In Lebanon, the Maronites Catholic Churches and the orthodox churches in Syria and Lebanon speak this language and use it as language of the liturgy and they name it Aramaic Syriac. In Turkey on the border with Syria many villages use this language in its very original version, naming it Soryoyo. In Iraq Catholic Churches use this Modern Assyrian Language and name it Chaldean language. Nevertheless, the various names are but of one root divided for religious denominational reasons. 6

7 Assyrians in Diaspora speak their language in addition to the languages of their hosting countries. In the USA Assyrians, Chaldeans, and Syriacs are mainly in Chicago, Michigan, Modesto, Turlock, San Jose, Los Angeles, San Diego, in Arizona and other States. There are Assyrians in Armenia, Ukraine, and Moscow, Uzbekistan in Russia. In Sweden, Assyrians are all over and live in large neighborhood, villages, towns, and cities. The same in Germany, Britain, Australia, Holland, and Denmark.Not forget Canada that a large number of Assyrians use it as sanctuary to live there and establish churches. These people are neglected in their countries as indigenous citizens who have inherited their land from their forefathers 6000 years ago, but now they need help from all the humanitarian organizations in the world, human rights agencies, the UNISEF and or UNISCO establishments, and especially their own Country Governments to help these people survive and save their language from extinction since it is among the most endangered ones in the world. 7
